Modular digital acquisition system based upon a synchronized tree model
The system is designed to handle to medium size experiments, from one to few hundred detectors. FASTER is a n-ary tree in which each nodes performs the followings function
synchronize and aggregate data streams received from the childrens nodes
make decision on the resulting data stream
send the resulting stream to the parent node
Triggerless system
All the data are timestamped, allowing nodes to perform online correlations between measurements over user-defined time windows
Modular
Using standard hardware and software components, users can build acquisition system tailored to their needs.
Currently, five packages are available on the FASTER project. The first thing to do is to add the FASTER repository and then install the package you need. Here is a list of the FASTER packages :
FASTER has already been used by physicists and students, both inside and outside of LPC Caen, for experiments and practical work in nuclear physics. Whether for the laboratory’s researchers or external users, FASTER is provided as a kit and comes with the data analysis tool RHB (Root Histogram Builder), developed at LPC Caen, in line with its modular design. All these tests further validate the system and represent milestones in the FASTER project’s roadmap.
